Applying for Home Internet connection

Hello, anyone here who's had experience applying for Internet connection for your place? We went to Telstra and was given an installation date (jul21) but then we called today to enquire about it and was told it would be aug17 pa.
How long would it take to get connected and may I know the process that you have personally experienced?
