can i lodge my 457 visa now and enter in Australia using my 456 visa

Is it ok to lodge my 457 visa application right now or just wait til I come back to Australia?

I have a 456 visa (multiple entry) and this is the one which I will be using for my entry in Australia.

Can this be done?
